WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama made it official Tuesday: Operation Iraqi Freedom is over, and the nation’s No. 1 priority is fixing the economy.

“The end of our combat mission in Iraq” comes at comes at “a time of great uncertainty for many Americans,” Obama said in a nationally televised address from the Oval Office.

“But this milestone should serve as a reminder to all Americans that the future is ours to shape if we move forward with confidence and commitment,” he added. “It should also serve as a message to the world that the United States of America intends to sustain and strengthen our leadership in this young century.”

And it opens up another opportunity “to rebuild our nation here at home,” the president said, declaring that “now, it is time to turn the page.”

Why Nicki Minaj Might The Best Female Rapper EVER

It's unfortunate but we all know the life span of Female rappers is half, maybe even one-third of what it is for a male rapper. When they come out they come in to a male dominate rap world, fighting to prove themselves worth a space in this competitive market. They come with their hardcore lyrics, tough girl attitude and sexy but still don't f*ck with me demeanor. Fast forward two to three albums later, and they become somewhat lost and fizzle out. They have nothing else to prove, therefore they try to switch it up, but ultimately fade out into female rap history.

Then comes Nicki Minaj. Now, I have to admit, I was not a Nicki Minaj fan at first. I came from the era when Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, and Eve were the best female rappers around. They came with raw, emotional talent, spit hard verses and created street anthems. But I'm a public relations major, so I know more then a few things about branding strategies and target markets. Nicki Minaj has created this whole fan-base on her fashion-style, catchy flow, and mass-market appeal. She is the first major female rapper to cross over into a pop market BEFORE even releasing her album, something female rappers in the past of done when releasing their third LP.

I'm also not saying that female rappers have not been able to cross over. Rapper Eve did it perfectly with her hit single "Blow Ya Mind" featuring pop-rock princess Gwen Stefani and Missy Elliot had a whole slew of hit that were heard on both the hip-hop station and the top-40. But with Nicki's new song "Check It Out" featuring pop-producer galore Will.I.Am, the man behind Usher's crossover hit "OMG" and front man of "The Black Eye Peas", many have compared it to something that might of been heard from Katy Perry, and with her success record, that is not a bad thing at all.

Now I KNOW there is a army of Nicki Minaj haters gathering together now that are about to rip me apart, but hear me out. I am by far saying that Nicki is the best female lyricist in the game. Lord knows that title most definitely could be given to some of the pioneers of female rap, I.E Lil Kim, Queen Latifah, and MC Lyte. But I am proclaiming her as the total package on what it is to become a mainstream success in this rap game. She's got the look, she's got the lyrics (home girl definitely got bars under her belt), and she's got the love. There is a whole army of wannabe "Barbies" that follow her every move. And that, to me, is what I think makes the ultimate female rapper. Now I could be totally wrong and she could flop, but I sincerely doubt that.

Rihanna Officially Got Waxed Then Dolled Up

Rihanna is the latest celebrity to get waxed by Madam Tussauds. The famous wax museum will unveil Rihanna's wax figure on Tuesday in Washington DC. Artist studied hundreds of photos and video to create this masterpiece and I must say they hit the nail right on the forehead. Rihanna recently made fun of her large forehead calling it a 5-head, after she burned herself with a curling iron.

The wax figure looks exactly like Rihanna and I"m talking spitting image. I'm sure tourist all over the world will be lining up to take pictures of Rihanna's freshly waxed... figure.

We wanted to send a special "We Miss You" to the late Aaliyah Haughton as today Wednesday, August 25th is 9 years to the day when Aaliyah tragically died in a plane crash. The plane crash happened in the Bahamas after filming the music video for "Rock The Boat".

Since the tragic accident and 9 years later, Aaliyah's music and movie career has achieved commercial success with several continued releases. And now her album sales are estimated to be between 24 to 32 million copies worldwide. The beautiful Singer, Model, Actress was only 22 years old in 2001, Aaliyah would have just now been hitting her 30s. That was a very sad sad Sunday Morning as most everyone probably remembers what they were doing or where they were when they got the news. So may she forever Rest In Peace as we can celebrate all that she left behind for the world.

Drake - "What If I Kissed You" (New Music)

The blogs out there are saying "What If I Kissed You" is a reference track for another artist, but if it stayed in Drake's hands, we wouldn't be mad. The mid-tempo ballad is produced by Ne-Yo's go to production duo Stargate and features Drake doing the non-chalant singing thing he does oh so well.



As snippets of this leaked, it was reported the track was recorded with someone else in mind, but now in it's complete version we can't imagine who it is possibly for. The song seems perfectly suited for a voice like Drake's, where there isn't much in terms of dynamics and range. His is a voice that sends off more of a yearning vibe from a man who sounds like he wants to sing from the top of his lungs but just can't.

Hopefully this track will land on Drake's upcoming R&B mixtape, It's Never Enough.

Drake feat. Lil Wayne - "Miss Me" (New Video)

Finally, the long-awaited visuals for Drake's "Miss Me" featuring Lil Wayne premiered tonight on MTV.



Directed by Anthony Mandler (who also directed "Over" and "Find Your Love"), "Miss Me" contains no spectacular effects, but there are some great and clever uses of Lil Wayne's green screen appearance. At one point, the entire Young Money Entertainment crew (with the exception of Nicki) surrounds Drake as Wayne raps his verse, his head a hologram on the screen. Other than that, a lot of posteuring and ice grils, but great use of only one piece of eye candy who is doing some interpretive dance for Drake in a four-cornered room.

According to MTV News, the video was filmed in two different parts. The first part was recorded earlier this year for Lil Wayne who had to film before he turned himself into prison where he's currently serving his time at Rikers Island. The second part was filmed in July. "Miss Me" is the third single from Drake's major-label debut album Thank Me Later. Me, I’m good, figured I’d update my glorious fans again. Better sooner than later right? I’ll try to do this more frequently.

Well ain’t nothing going on in here but the time, which seems like it’s taking forever. I’m trying to make the most out of every second tho, mentally. There’s some pretty cool people in here. The 2010 VMA Countdown: Eminem Declares Himself The Real Slim Shady

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards are only a few weeks away. The biggest party of the year features nominated clips by Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Ke$ha and Katy Perry and will feature performances by Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B and Florence and the Machine (with many more to be announced). In order to properly prepare yourself for what's to come, every day the MTV Newsroom Blog will deliver a classic moment in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards. Today's installment: Who is the real Slim Shady?

In today's chapter of "30 Days of VMA," we take a look at one of the greatest single performances in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards. Plenty of VMA performances are top-shelf, but there are only a select few that could only be considered iconic. Madonna's writhing around on the stage at the first VMAs in 1984 certainly ranks up there, along with the incredible three-way dance between Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Madonna (again) at the 2003 show. One greatest-of-all-time performance that doesn't involve Madonna is the one that Eminem delivered 10 years ago.

The 2000 MTV Video Music Awards saw the show beam live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City and was full of killer moments, including a blistering performance by Rage Against the Machine, Britney Spears' flesh-colored bodysuit, Macy Gray's pink afro and the tag-team between Christina Aguilera and Fred Durst. But by far the biggest moment was when Eminem hit the stage to perform "The Real Slim Shady" (which later won Video of the Year). Shady began his performance in the street outside Radio City Music Hall surrounded by "clones" — dozens of other guys dressed exactly like him. The army stormed the theater while Em made his way to the stage to finish "The Real Slim Shady" and bust into a savage "The Way I Am." In the performance's best moment, he hit the lyric about sitting next to Carson Daly and Fred Durst just as he was walking past their seats in the aisle. It was, as Mick Foley would say, great TV.

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 for Verizon subscribers) to vote for the winners from now through September 12.

VIDEO: You Need To Know: Lloyd Banks, Featuring Lloyd, 'Any Girl'

This new Lloyd Banks video is incredibly economical in how it delivers a ton of info in just a matter of seconds. Within the first few opening frames, we learn that Lloyd Banks sleeps in PJ bottoms with the windows open, that he fancies himself something of a sensitive singer-songwriter (peep the acoustic hanging on the wall) and that he has himself a "shorty" concierge who calls to alert him that his girlfriend is on the way home. So he better clean up his romantic crime scene, scrubbing off all evidence of infidelity.

We also learn that he's friends with R&B sensation Lloyd, which must be hell when they're out in public together and people shout, "LLOYD!" and they both look up.

Anyway this banger's video, courtesy of J. Jesse Smith, finds Lloyd & Lloyd doing it up at a party with a disturbingly out-of-balance girl-to-guy ratio. They seem to be managing somehow. Frankly with a track this addictive it could be a film strip highlighting water treatment processes, and it would still go hard.

Rihanna Gets In Touch With Nature In Seventeen Magazine

It sure is nice seeing Rihanna taking in some sunshine, no? Usually when we see her these days, in videos or paparazzi shots or whatever, girl is either a) wearing crazy pants or b) keeping it real dark and serious. Whether she's lurking in the noir landscapes of "Wait Your Turn," or keeping it real military in "Hard" or "Russian Roulette," we haven't seen her bathed in much sunshine.

Which is exactly what makes the image of her standing next to a tree on a sunny day such a nice surprise. It's just Rihanna looking really, really happy about it. And why not? Trees are great! Inside the issue of Seventeen, Rihanna talks about getting happy and being yourself, which are two pretty worthwhile subjects, if you ask me.

Video- Fabolous’ Tour Bus Stolen & Stripped “Like A Magic City Dancer” In Washington

One of the Make Me Better” hip-hopster’s tour buses was stolen from outside of a venue the rapper was performing in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, DC earlier this month.

The rapper says that the vehicle, parked next to the Secret Service building, was jacked during his live set — and by the time cops caught up with the house on wheels, the bus had been “stripped down like a Magic City dancer.”

“I had shows in D.C. this weekend. One of the turtle-top vans wound up getting stolen,” Fab explained to MTV.com last week. “I don’t know how, even the police were mind-boggled by it because it was parked right next to the Secret Service building. They found it though. It was stripped down like a Magic City dancer. It happens. I didn’t know people really go hard and steal cars like that. I think I tweeted, like, ‘Yo, do people really still steal cars?’ I thought that was something that kinda like fell off. What are you gonna do with a car after you steal it? Joyride? But I guess you can get some parts. But a turtle-top? You’re taking a big-ass van. Hopefully, it helped somebody out in their time of need.”

“Personally, Miami was not my favorite place. Vacationing there is great: You go for three days and get some sun, and it’s time to go home. It will definitely be an adjustment, but we’ll make it. We’re not complaining. Whatever LeBron felt was comfortable, I’m with him. I just love him so much. We’re soul mates.”
